Our Africa Cup of Nations insights

The 33rd edition of the Africa Cup of Nations was a great addition to the 2022 schedule, having been postponed for six months due to the pandemic. The tournament took place across five cities in Cameroon and saw the delighted Senegal Teranga Lions lift the trophy.

We were the only news agency to have crews on the ground, providing all the latest news including training footage, team arrivals, previews, press conferences, reaction and fan colour.

  • Our AFCON news content was used by over 250 media organisations in 82 markets across the world, a comparable reach to our coverage of Copa America in 2021.
  • As expected, the tournament was very topical in Africa, but also attracted strong media interest in Europe and the Middle East
  • Mohamed Salah was undoubtedly the biggest name to play at the tournament and attracted the most media interest, followed by Liverpool teammate, Sadio Mane, PSG’s Achraf Hakimi, and Manchester City’s, Riyad Mahrez.
  • Our self-shot footage capturing the ecstatic celebrations on the streets of Dakar, was very popular with our clients, as Senegal claimed its first AFCON title beating Egypt in the final.
