Standout moments from the Games

China dominated the medal table for the 12th consecutive Asian Games, securing an impressive 169 gold medals, followed by hosts Japan with 83 and South Korea with 39. Japan celebrated several historic achievements, including a dramatic victory over China in the men's table tennis team final, ending a 60-year wait for gold in the event.

The Games also showcased a new generation of sporting talent. Thailand's Puripol Boonson completed a remarkable sprint double, winning gold in both the men's 100m and 200m, while 13-year-old Chinese swimmer Yu Zidi claimed three gold medals and set multiple records. Both athletes were named Most Valuable Players of the Games.

Football provided further drama, with South Korea defeating Japan 1–0 to claim a fourth consecutive men's gold medal, while Japan's women's team secured victory over DPR Korea in a thrilling penalty shootout to retain their title. The Games concluded on 4 October with a Closing Ceremony celebrating the achievements of athletes from across Asia, followed by the official handover to Doha, Qatar, which will host the 2030 Asian Games.
